Hey guys! As you have heard, we have been celebrating a series of Funko Pop Weekend this month over at the Greenhills Shopping Center and Tiendesitas. To celebrate the occasion, I decided to pick up one of my latest Funko finds this season and place it up for review - the 6-inch Baymax from Disney's "Big Hero 6"!

Before I begin, let me give you a short background on Funko Pop toys. If you are not familiar with the brand, they're well known for their small yet affordable vinyl collectible toys. More often than not, they are mostly characters depicted from popular video games, movies, TV series, comics and more with a sort of "chibi" molding. Most of them are also readily available in several toy shops around the metro, annual toy conventions and more. To be honest, I have only entered the Funko Pop collection craze about a year ago. Most of time I would often target the bigger and more detailed toys from other brands. But after much thought and consideration, I gave it a go and it truly is a fun experience to start collecting them as they are mostly affordable, readily available and best to be used in building diorama scenes from shows (e.g. The Walking Dead) or to simply make them iconic and conversational table toppers. As of today, I have about 4 Funko Pop toys and counting.

Now for the main agenda, let me show you more on our cute and cuddly health care provider and inflatable super hero - DISNEY BIG HERO 6'S BAYMAX!

Ever since the movie first got out on the big screens, Funko has created different versions of Baymax to be sold. They had the regular-sized (more or less about 4 inches tall) Baymax in his inflatable form and also in his armored form. They also released a limited edition version of him that glows in the dark. Lastly, they released the big pop version (about 6 inches tall) of Baymax in his inflatable form and also in his armored form as well. Of course, despite the many versions, his character was a big hit especially with kids and collectors alike making these figures sell hot like pancakes. I settled for the Big pop version of Baymax in his inflatable form because I wanted to maximize his overall cuteness being his inflatable marshmallow-y self. After all, that is what he is really known for other than being a poofy hi-tech health companion.

The toy stands well despite the head being oversized for his body. Like all the other Funko Pop toys that I have encountered, only his head is the only thing you can twist. Fun thing about this particular toy is that adding additional or small props to him makes him even more appealing and adorable. Unlike the usual Funko Pop figures that has similar built and poses, I love how the figure emphasises his inflatable tummy and butt. It's Baymax after all - what's not to love? :)

The only beef I have with Funko though is their inconsistency with the way the toy was painted on. Sometimes, you really have to pick out from a set of the same character just to get the one with the best paint job. This has happened to me quite a number of times since I started collecting Funko Pop. I guess the knack of me finding well-detailed and designed toys before buying can't seem to wear off. However, given the affordable price mark of the product, I guess it is safe to say that they are definitely a bang for your buck most especially if the characters you are collecting are your personal favorites.

All in all, the Funko Pop 6-inch Baymax is definitely a keeper for me. It truly resembles and captures the character's personality, charm and overall look. Even if he is pearl white in color, he is also pretty easy to clean and display on your desk or shelf. I am sure that anyone who looks at him will be brightening their day with awe. Definitely, this toy makes me feel SATISFIED WITH MY CARE.

3 Nendoroid Figures and the Lego 21108 GhostBusters Ecto-1!

I know that I have not been able to update my blog with new reviews for the past few months but am really hoping that this year would be different - new toys, new events and of course, new giveaways and fun surprises are definitely going to come your way at the ElectroMagnetChick! 

Just to give a brief background on these new additions to my collection:

LEGO 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1

My cousin, Anton and I visited the Christmas Toy Fair 2014 at the Megatrade Hall a few days before Christmas day. Interested to see what they had to offer and if we could find any great deals for our little cousins, nephews and nieces (and also for ourselves hehe), this event was truly something I couldn't miss.

After going around multiple times scavenging every single booth, we came across the Lego 21108 Ghostbusters Ecto-1 set! It was one of the latest LEGO Build sets I have been eyeing after it was approved for production from LEGO Ideas (LEGO Ideas is like a kickstarter program for Lego fans to suggest and vote interesting ideas for build sets that can possibly be made! Without a doubt, it was my goal and my sweet cousin decided on the spot that it would be his Christmas/birthday gift to me. You could imagine how much jitters and child like feels I had that moment even if I insisted he didn't have to. Thanks so much cuz! Love you mucho! :)

425 Nendoroid Red Trainer (Pokemon)

Originally, this was the toy I was asking my brother to pick up for me when he visited the Pokemon Center during his trip to Japan last October 2014. When he came home and told me he was not able to pick this figure up, I immediately was on a look out should any of the local collectible toy stores have any pre-order openings. However, upon my discovery, the pre-order for this specific figure was already closed. I also discovered that there was a really huge demand for it to the point that the value of the toy skyrocketed to P8,000/figure. If you are wondering why this was such a hot sell out, it is because the toy represents the iconic Red Trainer from the popular video game and animated series, Pokemon. The figure comes with interchangeable face plates, legs, hands, poke balls and even the 3 first generation starter pokemon! To make things even more exciting, the toy was only sold as a Pokemon Center exclusive in Japan.  I must say, they truly live up to the tag line of the franchise - "Gotta Catch em' All!" since this was a challenging find.

With the help of my good friend Arra and her father (who is a big time toy collector too!), we were able to find and snag the rare figure when it was released in one of the local collectible toy stores that sold it to us for a good and reasonable price. I remember that I had to head to the store right away the moment it arrived if I wanted to grab myself one - and to my surprise, by the time I got there, there was only 1 left (mind you it was a regular working weekday) - I guess it really was meant for me. After everything, I think this made the perfect and rewarding Christmas present to myself this year. Thank you so much Arra, Tito Art and GreatToysOnline for this opportunity and rare find! :)

As growing up, I was an avid fan of video games. Back in the Nintendo Gamecube days, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was one of the most memorable titles I played - for one, its colorful and paper-like artwork was very unique compared to its older and newer versions of the game franchise.

Persona on the other hand was another J-RPG favorite of mine. I simply loved the fun gameplay, the mysterious story plot and the overall experience that the game franchise had to offer. Aegis was one of my favorite characters in the Persona 3 game. She had this witty, funny and a somewhat "innocent" personality for a robot but battling side by side with her against shadows is a pretty kickass experience.

These two Nendoroids were given to me as a present from my good friend and fellow toy collector, Arra. They were given actually in two separate occasions which was my birthday and for Christmas. Since both are still sealed and were given near the holiday season, I considered them both a combo gift instead! Thanks so much for this! Truly a great addition to my ever growing Toy Collection and I'm so excited to display them on my shelves soon!

For the month of October, my eldest brother went off to the land of the rising sun for a few days to celebrate his birthday. Being a very big fan of Japan's vibrant culture, history, lifestyle and of course, their trademarks in gaming and animation; I could not pass up on the opportunity to ask for exclusive and hard to find collectibles during his trip. 

I provided him specific requests and a list of toys that I was eyeing for him to check out along with a hard earned budget that I saved from work. One of these requests was an exclusive toy sold only in real life Pokemon Centers across Japan. Growing up with Pokemon since its very first release on television and the Gameboy Color, it was only fitting that the collectible I would invest in was something handpicked from a childhood love.

A few months back, I read from a reliable source that Bandai SH Figuarts was going to release a new Pokemon toy after the success of Lucario (another Pokemon figure previously released). Following the massive success of Pokemon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS, the well-known toy company decided on creating the Mega Evolution version of Blaziken -- the final evolution of the Pokemon 'Torchic' which was a special free gift to those who purchased the game early). Mega Evolution was the newest craze on Pokemon upon the release of X and Y that allows fully evolved Pokemon to temporarily "Mega Evolve" and strengthen further with the help of their respective mega stone and mega ring. After given much thought, I included this toy to my top wish list along with the 425 Nendoroid Red Trainer (which will be my next goal in another time) before my brother embarked to Japan.

My brother described his overall experience in a real life Pokemon Center in Yokohama, Japan with a single word -- CUTE. He said that it was filled with so much Pokemon plush toys, an arcade, and other official Pokemon merchandise to find everyone's liking regardless of their age. He was also overwhelmed with the variety of Poke Balls around the store that he could not decide which one I would like to have. After exploring the store, he stumbled upon the Mega Blaziken toy from Bandai SH Figuarts and immediately took it home for me.

Hours after his arrival in Manila from Japan, I came home from work with 2 new toys laid on my bed -- The Pokemon BANDAI SH Figuarts: Mega Blaziken as requested and a super duper cute plush toy of Totoro from the Studio Ghibli museum! Just seeing them waiting for me really relieved me from my daily dose of stress and instantly, I felt like a kid all over again with an enormous amount of energy and excitement flowing through me.

For this review though, I will be more focused on the Mega Blaziken but to let me take a few minutes to give you a brief background on my other newly loved toy - Totoro. My brother has been a very big fan of Mr. Hayao Miyazaki (the heart and soul of Studio Ghibli who recently retired) along with his animated masterpieces like Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro to name a few. Since this was my brother's first trip to Japan, it only seemed fitting for him to visit the Studio Ghibli museum especially since Mr. Miyazaki's works was one of my brother's biggest inspirations and role model in 2D animation. Studio Ghibli has also been the pioneer and role model of most, if not all, animated feature films since 1985. Being a kid at heart throughout my years of existence, I have also enjoyed many of Studio Ghibli's works and never got tired of watching them over and over. Other than his remarkably cuteness, Totoro has been one of the most iconic characters from Studio Ghibli. My brother thought that his visit to the museum and getting me my very own Totoro to hug was a great birthday gift for me and sure enough, it really was! :)

Going back to my original review, the Mega Blaziken was well packaged and sealed in an orange and black box with a plastic window view of the toy itself inside. The back side of the box showed the fearless fire/fighting type Pokemon in different poses and stances during battle and on stand by during combat.

As I gently opened the box, I finally got to see the actual toy up close and personal. As expected from the SH Figuarts line, the figure is fully poseable from head, shoulders, arms, legs, torso, knees, and even each finger! The overall quality and material of the toy was amazing and beautifully crafted using only high quality plastic with a matte-like finish except for the flames, which were somewhat transparent and glossy. It was also well packed since I had to pull a few thin plastic strips from its neck, body and even arms while taking him out of the box. This guaranteed me as well that that the toy was really placed in utmost care beginning from the way it was packaged no matter how much it may have shook during its trip back to Manila.

Mega Blaziken came with no replacable body parts however, it is not needed since the vibrance and well-designed details of the toy already captures the full on character, look and attitude of the Pokemon. The arms were also equipped with built in flame rods just like how it is in the actual video game, making it really cool and a true added aesthetic no matter what pose you make it do. The toy as well came with a shiny collector's platform in the shape and design of a Poke ball.

Overall, it is another great toy masterpiece as expected from the respectful brand BANDAI since it definitely captures the actual Pokemon found in the series and the video game. With several amazing and cool ways to pose Mega Blaziken, this truly makes a great conversational piece among Pokemon fans as it also introduces the wonders of the new Mega Evolution! No doubt, I highly recommend this toy to be part of any Pokemon lover's collection.

If you want one, you could grab Mega Blaziken in any official Pokemon Centers in Japan (click here for the list of stores should you visit the country) for about 4,860 Japanese Yen or you may also check your local specialty toy stores in malls nearest you (though prices might vary should you get it outside the official store). Over the week, I was caught by surprise when my good friend, Arra from Style Reader, gave me an advanced birthday present during one of our hang outs. The gift came in a blue gift bag where I was told that I was not allowed to actually open it until my real birthday date. Though, given the shape of the box and after taking sneaky peeks, I knew100% that it was a new toy. My inner child could not resist but open it up early. Upon opening it, my face literally lit up to see that the toy inside was one of the ones I have been eyeing lately - the new Cloud Strife: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Static Arts Mini Series by Square Enix!

The toy came in a well-packaged colourful box that showcases the other characters available for this mini series. Being an avid fan of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, this statuette makes a perfect addition to my ever growing toy collection. Every glimpse of it reminds me of the days I used to play the RPG with the PSX back in the year 1997 and the times I battled with the beats brought by Theatrhythm on the 3DS.

Standing only 5-inches tall, the toy is remarkably adorable and still BAD ASS. I love as well how Square Enix decided to retain his original SOLDIER uniform from the classic RPG game rather than have him dressed like the one from Advent Children or Kingdom Hearts. This really gives off a more nostalgic feel with the Character's original persona with a hint of cuteness! 

In terms of color and detail, the toy really captures all the intrinsic details of the SOLDIER uniform from neck to toe. However, I wish that the paint job on the buster sword was more carefully done since it had a slight smudge on the lower edge of the plastic blade. Other than that, everything else is perfect as expected from the same company that brought us Play Arts Kai toy series! (I will be doing a review on my Play Arts Kai collection soon so stay tuned for that!) In terms of feel, you can tell that the type of plastic used to create the toy was hi quality grade just by feeling it. Despite it being very detailed, it has an overall smooth surface and finish.

In conclusion, the Cloud Strife: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Static Arts Mini Series is definitely a must have for any fan of the classic RPG series. Though it would have also been much cooler if the toy had movable parts to change his poses. Nevertheless, its initial look lets you appreciate every bit of Cloud, his uniform, his signature spiked up hair, and trusty Buster Sword! I couldn't agree more that he definitely creates the perfect blend of cute with an attitude! If you want one of these, you can collect Cloud, Sephiroth and Tifa at Datablitz! I know that there is also a Moogle, Chocobo and Squall version however, these will be released on a later date.

Over the weekend, my brother decided to give me my birthday present this year a little bit earlier than expected. Knowing that I have a knack of replaying classic games via Emulators on my Android phone, he got me my own mobile game controller - the MOGA Pro Power Controller!

It lets you relive your favorite games from past successful consoles without the nuisance of the touchpad controller and your fingers covering parts of the screen. It also simulates the good old digital pad experience like how console games should be played and lastly, it makes more buttons playable which is crucial to many popular RPGs, Racing and Action games (such as the dual clickable analog sticks, L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons - using them is a breeze compared to the touchpad controller which is really difficult and almost unplayable for certain games). The other feature that I love about the MOGA Pro Power is its SMRT Lock. Back when I was still using the OTG cable and my Xbox 360 wired controller, I would normally require a stand or a place where I can put my screen up to avoid light glare and/or horrid seating positions just to see what's going on in the game (let's not forget about the long dangling wire behind which could be a real nuisance when on the go). Since I'm also using a Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, finding a suitable case with a stand is a bit of a challenge and somewhat costly as well. The controller's SMRT lock features let you have complete freedom to game on anywhere literally with comfort. What I love about the controller as well is how it has really took comfort for long-term gaming. The design of the controller fits comfortably on my hands when in use. The buttons are also not difficult to press and hold down, and are made of good quality materials that's surely meant to withstand extended gaming overtime.

So there you have it! Overall, I am very happy with the experience and fit that this handy mobile controller has to offer. I would recommend this as a must have for gamers on the go especially when reliving the glory days of old consoles through your Android phones and tablets! Last April 2014, DC Comics announced that July 23, 2014 is officially BATMAN DAY! It is quite amazing how Gotham's favorite Dark Knight has reached another milestone as it marks its 75th year! Though, since Batman Day landed on a weekday, one bookstore in the Metro wouldn't let this remarkable moment in comic book history slip out!

Fully Booked Philippines celebrated Batman Day last Saturday, July 26, 2014, in several of their branches spread across the Metro. The main event of course was celebrated at Bonifacio High Street. To start the event, the first 75 fans to show their love for the caped crusader upon store opening - whether it is to come in full costume, have a Batman tattoo or as simple as wearing a Batman T-Shirt, get exclusive goodies from Pacific Licensing, the official license holder of Warner Bros. I arrived at the store about an hour early with my Funko Pop Rides Collectible #1 - the 1966 Batmobile that I snagged for a great deal at the Bangkok Comic-Con (I will be writing about my finds and experience there soon)! Despite coming early, the line was already piling up by the back entrance of Fully Booked.

Part of the fun that awaited all Batman fans is that Comic book stores around the world, including Fully Booked, were going to give out the special anniversary issue, Detective Comics #27 for one day only. This comic features a reimagining of Batman's 1939 comic launch designed by Chip Kidd, and written by the NY Times best selling author Brad Meltzer. Since there was a limited number of copies of the comic book available in each branch, only one (1) comic book was given on a first come, first serve basis.

When the store opened, there were already several activities lined up for the fans. Aside from free comic book giving and the first 75 gifts, you can get prizes from joining the trivia contests or even just impersonating Batman's voice and impressions! After collecting the free comic book at the ground floor, the Batman fans were then directed to the 4th floor where more Batman themed activities awaited them. Artworks and the vast Batman toy collection of Anna Gajudo were displayed for fans to appreciate. There were also a number of local and talented comic book artists who were offering to do awesome sketches for a reasonable price. There were contests as well that you could sign up to win prizes such as the trivia contest, the drawing contest, etc.

Other than just enjoying the several activities throughout the day, the fans and walk-in guests could also enjoy a discount up to 20% off on selected titles and items just because.... it was BATMAN DAY! My brother was able to get a good deal on his new art book and got a free DC Comics poster with it. 

Overall, it really was a commemorative moment for Batman. Other than celebrating its overflowing success for 75 years, it was truly heartwarming and fascinating seeing how the event was enjoyed by different generations and how parents who were Batman fans encourage their children to appreciate and fall in love with the brilliant caped crusader.
